The invention relates to a process and an installation for drying the coal to be loaded into a furnace. According to the invention, the process for drying the coal in a fluidized-bed drier uses the depleted furnace gas as a part or a whole of the drying gas which is introduced into the fluidized bed drier and it is characterized by that, when interrupting or reducing the supply of depleted smoke gas from furnaces, the gas discharged from the fluidized-bed drier is recirculated and reused as supply gas for drier, when interrupting or reducing the supply of the depleted smoke gas from furnaces, there is emitted a warning signal; a part of the discharged and recirculated gas is heated by a hot gas generator and on the path it is cleaned from the coal dust by means of a deduster which, in its turn, is cleaned by blasting a gas by a regulator, said gas being discharged simultaneously with the remainder of gases, through the chimney. According to the invention, the installation for drying coal comprises a drier (7) with fluidized bed (13) for drying the coal and a pipe (8) for supplying a part or the whole quantity of depleted smoke from furnaces towards the fluidized-bed drier, and a chimney (20) for degassing, installation which is characterized by that it is provided with some regulators (24), (25) for regulating the quantity of coal loaded and discharged from the fluidized-bed drier, a pipe (17) for circulating the gas discharged from the drier through a deduster (16), which includes a gas regulator for cleaning the deduster and means (29) for heating the discharged gas and a flow regulator (27) for conducting the gas discharged from the drier towards the chimney or a pipe (21) for recirculating the discharged gas, said pipe being provided with some flow regulators (23), (28) for the gas recirculated towards the dryer (7).
