Invenţia se referă la o proteină mutantă 5-enolpiruvilshikimat-3-fosfat sintază (EPSPS), care prezintă toleranţă mărită faţă de erbicide care sunt inhibitori competitivi faţă de fosfoenolpiruvat (PEP) al activităţii EPSPS, la o genă care codifică o astfel de proteină şi la celule de plante transformate în constructele genei himerice, care conţin această genă.
